Gita Govindam was composed originally in Sanskrit by Jaideva, the poet in the court of king Laksman Sen, the king of Sen dynasty in Bengal.
In this book the poet depicted the story of love between Krishna and Radha, the two genuine and absorbed lovers of each other opening a new rhythm of sense for love making.
The poet Jaideva composed the stanzas of the book dipping his mind in the ocean of devotion for Lord Krishna inviting a new charm of acceptance of love making in every mind even at a time when love making was not at all an acceptable occasion in the eyes of people irrespective of ranks and class.

The poet Jaideva created an wave of thought in the light of love making between Krishna and Radha and that wave engulfed the then society and the society afterwards making a sensation in every human mind be it young or old!

Gita Govindam was able to create a new way to reach the destination of life in an ambience of love towards peace and salvation releasing the material attachment of dreams and desires of ordinary life!
The way the women lived in the society in that frame of time when Jaideva started visualising the eternal relation of Lord Krishna and Radha, was even beyond the lowest ebb of dignity as the women were treated as mere chattel and objects of physical satisfaction in the hands of kings and landlords.
…taken from “Gita Govindam and the divine love of Krishna and Radha!” By Subrata Mukherjee.

Lord Krishna and Radha inseparable from each other from the time immemorial and their divine love is incomparable and immortal continues to the next many thousand years to come!
Jaideva composed Gita Govindam in a fashion to depict the reception in the mind of Radha for Krishna. Moreover, Radha who dared to advance for the cause of Krishna releasing her everything made the women of that era to realise the same that following Krishna was a better option for their dignity than being subjected to be a part of plaything in the hands of landlords and the kings.
The society of Bengal during the reign of Laksman Sen as revealed in various descriptions of the historians was not about upholding the morale and dignity of the women rather women used to face a derogatory life in the society and also at their homes where respect for them was found in a rarerity!
Entire society turned vulnerable in all the aspects and the life of women was full of miseries. It was the time when Jaideva decided to hold his pen to compose Gita Govindam.
Gita Govindam raised the rank of women against the flow of darkness prevailing in the society. Jaideva uttered his voice against the backwardness of the society. He moved forward enlightening the lives of millions of women who otherwise would have been thrown in gloomy state of affairs plunged in the customs of polygamy and casteism had the philosophy of Gita Govindam not disseminated well in that frame of society.
