Politics is the set of activities which are associated with making decisions in groups, or other forms of power relations between individuals in the forms of distribution of resources or status. It is a branch of social science that studies politics and it as a whole is referred to as political science.
It may be used in the context of a political opinion or thought or may be as an art or science of formation of government. Bearing these opinions politics have two aspects one positive in the context of association of people and the other negative as the dissociation of powers and position. Both the concepts have been accepted in different approaches in the modrn day of States.
There are nothing granted as accepted universally in the political thoughts. Therefore, a variety of methods have been in vogue in politics. Instances can be drawn which include promoting one’s own political views among people, negotiation with other political subjects. Politics is exercised on a wide range of levels in the human society from clans and tribes of traditional societies to the modern forms of governments, companies , institutions and the mechanism of states in the national and the international level.
In modern day states, people often form political parties to represent their ideas and conduct their activities and they associate like- minded or opined people to carry and bear the position and support on many issues. This gives birth to the process of election to elect the leaders of the people to conclude the ways of acts to be carried in line with the ‘ism’ or opinion they believe.
A political system is a framework to define a political method in a society. The history of political thought can be traced back to early antiquity with works namely, ‘Republic’ by Plato, ‘Politics’ by Aristotle,’Arthashastra’, by Chanakya and the works of Confucius.
The political system defines the process for making decisions for the conduct of the government. It has all the aspects of legal , economic, cultural and other socially acceptable systems. According to David Easton, “A political system can be designated as the interactions through which values are authoritatively allocated for a society.”
Political system is embedded in a society with its own political culture, and it plays a key role to shape the societies through public policy. The interactions and conflicts coupled with contradiction in the various political systems are the basis of politics in its entirety.
Political systems can be classified for its simplified understanding in the following groups, namely , a sovereign type and the other a non sovereign type. This can be explained further as society, small family group or clan, tribe are all of the non sovereign types and sovereign state is of sovereign type.
To define a sovereign type of political system it can be said that a sovereign state is a state with a permanent population, a defined territory, a government and the capacity to enter into relations with other sovereign states. Characteristically every sovereign state has some sanctioning powers to impose on its inferior entities under its control but the non sovereign type of political system devoides such characteristics and noteworthy among them are Leagues , groups besides race , clan or society.
